Course will emphasize learning the basic elements and principles of design and basic drawing skills. Students will work with a variety of black and white drawing mediums: pencil, charcoal and ink. Students will learn a variety of drawing techniques, shading, and basic graphic design.

Course will offer more of a fine art approach to color theory and techniques. Students will work with watercolor, chalk pastels, colored pencil, oil pastels and acrylics. Students will learn techniques to landscape, and portrait painting.

This course will offer new mediums and help students market their ability. Students will be expected to make more informed decisions about their art making process. Students will also be given the opportunity to start exploring individual interests with consideration to more sophisticated mark making. Students will learn the use of formal elements and principles (elements: line, color, texture, space, value, shape, and form. Principles: unity, balance, contrast, repetition, variety, dominance, etc.) Concept/idea, craftsmanship, and the creation of a visually successful design will all be components of every grade. Students will develop mastery in concept, composition, as well as execution of 2D design elements and principles.

This course has been developed to accommodate students who have expressed an interest in completing either the AP Drawing Portfolio Exam or the AP 2-D Design Portfolio Exam. Through teacher instruction, emphasis will be placed on the production of a volume of quality pieces of art. Students will address all three section of the portfolio: Breadth, Concentration and Quality. These individual sections of each portfolio will be discussed in detail both before Summer and at the start of the school year.

Learn basic skills on the acoustic guitar. This will include learning to play chords and songs, accompanying yourself and others singing, playing independently and in a group, basic music notation as related to guitar and possibly beginning song writing

This class is a continuation of the skills and concepts covered in Beginning Guitar. Students will need to know the basics of tuning, notation (both standard and tablature), chord diagrams, strumming patterns and simple care and maintenance. Intermediate Guitar will further skills in all of these areas, as well as covering picking patterns, advanced notation reading, barre chords, and more. Course outlines will be somewhat individualized to meet each student's interests

This course covers all types of jazz. Listening, playing and performing will be the main aspects of the class. There will be a fee for lease of school-owned instruments.
