Welding

9-12th grade      Prerequisite: None

This course is a hands-on approach to welding. The areas to be covered will be an introduction to shop, tool and equipment safety. The students will focus on setting up and operating an oxy fuel cutting torch, properly using a GMAW (stick) Welder and SMAW (Mig) Welder. All safety equipment will be provided.

Students will review shop and tool safety. They will also develop their welding skills by focusing on more challenging SMAW (stick) processes in the vertical and overhead positions. They will also focus on more challenging GMAW (Mig) processes in the vertical and overhead positions. In addition, students will have an opportunity to start operating a GTAW (Tig) welding machine.

10-12th grade      Prerequisite: Welding II with a C or better

Students will review shop and tool safety. Students will continue to develop their welding skills by working on the same assignments as Rogue Community college students. They will also have an opportunity to work on their own personal projects provided they meet the instructor’s approval.

10-12th grade      Prerequisite: Welding III with a C or better

Students will review shop, tool and equipment safety. Students will continue to develop their fabrication skills by continuing to work on sheet metal pattern development, incorporating welding into project design and execution. They will also be introduced to CNC programming and continue to learn to operate the Arclight plasma cutting table.

11-12th grade      Prerequisite: Welding IV with a C or better

Students will learn how to pipe weld with various welding processes and learn how to use equipment associated with pipe welding. Students will also learn how to weld structural steel with various welding processes and all learn to use all the equipment related to welding structural steel. Students will also have an opportunity to build and design their projects that meet the instructor’s approval.

11-12th grade      Prerequisite: Welding V with a C or better
.5 CTE Credit        Course fee may apply

Students will continue to develop their pipe welding and structural steel welding skills. Students will also learn how to use a spool gun for aluminum welding. In addition, students will also have an opportunity to work on individual projects that meet with the instructor's approval.
