Digital Media I
9-12th grade Prerequisite: None
.5 CTE Credit Course fee may apply
Students will begin to explore digital art, photography and video technology, as wells as use professional grade Adobe Products such as Photoshop, Illustrator, and Premiere Pro. Shooting, editing, and production skills will also be acquired. Students will gain hands-on experience while creating a wide variety of projects. They will also dive into their creative sides with digital art projects and exploration of the creative process. This class will prepare students for more advanced work in Digital Media II, Filmmaking, Digital Journalism I and II, and PHTV.
Digital Media II
9-12th grade Prerequisite: Digital Media I with a C or better

Students will expand on the work done in Digital Media I with more advanced digital art, photography, and video projects, as well as learning audio mixing skills. They will have access to more advanced technologies and equipment to develop more production and storytelling skills. Students will have more hands on experience by helping to create content for PHTV, and learning the professional production equipment used to make the weekly announcements. This class will prepare students for more advanced work in classes like Filmmaking and PHTV.
Digital Photography I
9-12th grade Prerequisite: None

In this class, you will learn how to become a great photographer by applying the principles of photography like exposure, composition, and editing. We will use professional Adobe software like Lightroom and Photoshop to create stunning photos. Whether or not you want explore photography as a career or just make your social media pages more appealing, this is the class for you!
Digital Photography II
9-12th grade Prerequisite: Digital Photography I with a C or better

Do you love photography? If you know how to use a digital camera and want to learn how to use film instead then this class is for you. We will work on larger projects and hand-develop film. You will also learn more about studio lighting and how to make your subject pop in artistic ways. You will learn to handle clients, how to pose during the shoot, and how to edit for emotion. We will focus on developing your style and voice as a photographer.
Filmmaking
10-12th grade Prerequisite: Digital Media I & II with a C or better

Advanced skills in video production will be developed emphasizing the creative art of film making. Using an in-house setting as well as the ability to check out school issued equipment, students will create a wide array of projects that demonstrate high levels of editing, lighting, and sound mixing skills. Students will develop a comfort utilizing special effects and transitions to generate both short and long films which utilize their own creative ideas and visions. Students will develop individual projects that reflect student’s personal interests as well as work together in production teams to create film festival entries’ as well as personal projects. Students will take on roles that emulate professional positions with the film making industry.
PHTV I & II
11-12th grade Prerequisite: Digital Media I & II with a C or better

PHTV is an advanced year-long, hands-on, Broadcast Journalism Class designed to give students interested in a career in broadcast journalism an opportunity to hone their skills. The purpose of this class is to develop, shoot, edit, and present a weekly news show in the production studio as well as contributing, maintaining, and updating PHS's online newspaper under the guidance of the instructor.
Yearbook I-III
10-12th grade Prerequisite: Digital Photography with a C or better or instructor approval

Students will engage in advanced large projects utilizing skills in photography, video, and journalism. They will take a deep dive into advanced photography techniques gaining hands-on experience taking photos at school activities including sporting events, assemblies, and club events, most taking place after school. They will also gain experience in layout and design helping to build the yearbook. This class uses Photoshop and Lightroom heavily to edit photos for the yearbook. A strong emphasis is placed on exposure and compositional techniques. Yearbook II & III students are the leaders in the class (editors, and assistant editors). They help assign photo shoots and make final decisions on the yearbook.
