10-12th grade Prerequisite: Small Animal Technology with a C or better .5 CTE Credit
This advanced-level course provides motivated students with a foundation in basic Veterinary Science and practical veterinary applications. Students will study and apply techniques regarding basic vet care, such as various treatments as well as preventative care in both pets and livestock animals, animal anatomy and physiology, identifying common ailments and conditions in animals, the importance of animal genetics, routine care (teeth, nails, ears, eyes, and fur), appropriate exercise and nutrition, and careers in the animal medical world. Students will develop a portfolio and build skills to prepare for college and future careers in agricultural technology, veterinary technology, and companion animal sales and services. Students are automatically enrolled in FFA (Future Farmers of America) and encouraged to participate in our Career Development competitive events.
