Agriculture

9-12th grade      Prerequisite: None      .5 CTE Credit

Start a journey to find out what agriculture is and why it is important (hint: the food we eat and the clothes we wear are made from agricultural commodities). Units are arranged in a hands-on exploratory and interactive way. Students will be introduced to FFA, Small Animals, Large Animals (livestock), Greenhouse operations, Soils, Natural Resources, Veterinary care, Leadership, and Ag. Business & Marketing. Careers in agriculture will be emphasized throughout the course. Participation in FFA is strongly encouraged as it reinforces the academic component of the class, helps build leadership skills, and much more.

9-12th grade      Prerequisite: None      .5 CTE Credit

This course covers the principles and applications of greenhouse technology and offers practical experience in growing horticultural crops under controlled environmental conditions. Students will create and participate in the Mother’s Day Plant Sale. A spare change of clothes is highly recommended for soil and water spills. Students are automatically enrolled in FFA (Future Farmers of America).

9-12th grade      Prerequisite: Intro to Agriculture      .5 CTE Credit

This course is designed to enhance the understanding of small animal care. Students will develop a deeper understanding of career opportunities, industry expectations, knowledge and skills related to the care and maintenance of small animals. In addition, students will learn about the various species and breeds of small animals and their individual body systems. During the course of the semester, students will examine small mammals, dogs, cats, birds, amphibians, and reptiles. Students are automatically enrolled in FFA (Future Farmers of America).

10-12th grade      Prerequisite: Intro to Greenhouse      .5 CTE Credit

This class will explore design principles and concepts. Students will learn and work hands-on to create landscape designs, hydroponics, and floral designs. This will prepare students for a career in interior design, landscape design, floral design, and many others.

10-12th grade      Prerequisite: Small Animal Technology with a C or better      .5 CTE Credit

This advanced-level course provides motivated students with a foundation in basic Veterinary Science and practical veterinary applications. Students will study and apply techniques regarding basic vet care, such as various treatments as well as preventative care in both pets and livestock animals, animal anatomy and physiology, identifying common ailments and conditions in animals, the importance of animal genetics, routine care (teeth, nails, ears, eyes, and fur), appropriate exercise and nutrition, and careers in the animal medical world. Students will develop a portfolio and build skills to prepare for college and future careers in agricultural technology, veterinary technology, and companion animal sales and services. Students are automatically enrolled in FFA (Future Farmers of America) and encouraged to participate in our Career Development competitive events.

10-12th grade     .5 CTE Credit
Prerequisite: Introduction to Agriculture, Welding I, Introduction to Greenhouse, or Small Animal Technology     

Students will participate in many skill-building and leadership activities. This class will explore business and marketing, sales, speech and debate, along with agriculture literacy. Students will create and participate in hands-on learning for elementary students and planning community events. This class is good for any student interested in exploring a different view on agriculture. Students are automatically enrolled in FFA (Future Farmers of America).
